Risk Operations Centre

From periodic compliance to continuous confidence.

Know what matters. See what has changed. Act on the controls your services depend on.

The Barrier Risk Operations Centre (ROC) connects cybersecurity assessments, control dependencies and operational evidence in one platform. Agentic AI supports regular, evidence-led reviews of the controls behind your assurance, helping identify gaps, challenge outdated conclusions and prioritise action around the services that matter most.

Assess against NCSC CAF, NIST CSF 2.0, applicable parts of IEC 62443 and ISO/IEC 27001, with each assessment grounded in your organisation’s scope, risks and priorities.

The assurance gap

A green assessment should not become a blind spot.

An assessment records a judgement based on the evidence available at the time. But your environment does not stand still. Access changes. Vulnerabilities emerge. Monitoring coverage weakens. Important actions become overdue.

A control can remain marked as effective long after the evidence supporting that conclusion needs another look.

The ROC helps close that assurance gap. By revisiting supporting evidence and checking relevant dependencies, it brings missing, stale or conflicting information into view. Your team can investigate before an outdated assessment becomes a false sense of security.

The aim is not another green dashboard. It is a clearer understanding of what supports your confidence, what has changed and what needs attention.

Trace what matters

See the service behind the control.

An isolated control result tells only part of the story. Its significance depends on the services it protects, the systems those services rely on and the evidence showing whether the control is working.

The ROC uses dependency mapping and AI-assisted analysis to connect those relationships. Start with an essential function, follow the supporting systems and processes, identify the required controls, and examine the evidence behind them.

04

Current evidence

What shows whether the required conditions are being met?

When a supporting condition changes, the ROC helps explain which service is affected and why the finding deserves attention. Unknown evidence remains visible rather than being treated as a successful check.

Intelligent assurance, human accountability

Agentic AI that works the evidence. Experts who retain the judgement.

The ROC uses agentic AI to work through assessment questions, retrieve relevant records, trace mapped dependencies and explain findings in context. It brings together information from governance records, identity systems, security monitoring, vulnerability management and supporting documents.

Defined rules evaluate checks and thresholds. AI helps interpret the evidence, identify contradictions and suggest priorities. Your experts review the conclusions and authorise formal assessment changes.

Checks can run on agreed schedules, with additional reviews triggered by relevant changes where integrations support them. Controls requiring interviews, exercises or other manual evidence remain part of the assessment process.

Framework-aware by design

One platform. Multiple frameworks. Clear assessment boundaries.

Use the frameworks and standards relevant to your organisation without forcing different assessment methods into a single compliance score. The ROC brings their results into a common workspace while retaining each assessment’s scope, version, approval date, findings and remediation records.

CAFFRAMEWORK 01

NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework

Connect CAF objectives, principles and contributing outcomes to the evidence supporting your assessment. CAF AI, within the ROC, helps identify where operational observations challenge a scoped assurance claim and where further review is needed. Indicators of Good Practice inform the assessment; expert judgement remains central.

CSF 2.0FRAMEWORK 02

NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0

Organise evidence around your Current and Target Profiles, identify gaps in cybersecurity outcomes and focus improvement activity on the priorities agreed for your organisation. Maintain a clear distinction between the position recorded in your assessment and new evidence requiring attention.

OTFRAMEWORK 03

IEC 62443

Support assessments against the applicable parts of the IEC 62443 series for industrial automation and control systems. Connect relevant security programme and technical requirements to your agreed system scope, supporting controls and evidence. Assessment scope reflects the parts of the series and responsibilities relevant to your organisation.

ISMSFRAMEWORK 04

ISO/IEC 27001

Support assessment of your information security management system by organising evidence against applicable requirements and selected controls. Keep risk treatment actions, assessment findings and supporting records in context, helping teams prepare for review and maintain a clearer view between audits.

View your assessments together or focus on an individual framework. Achievement against one framework is not automatically treated as achievement against another. The ROC supports assessment and assurance; it does not replace independent certification or regulatory judgement.

From observation to action

What happens when the evidence no longer supports the assessment?

Consider an illustrative CAF assessment of security-alert triage. The last approved outcome is Achieved. A priority alert then misses its agreed triage deadline.

The ROC connects that observation to the relevant control and the security monitoring and response service it supports. A defined rule flags the condition for review, identifies the responsible owner and makes the next action clear.

The assurance view keeps three things separate:

Current

A priority alert missed its agreed triage deadline. The supporting condition needs review; the approved judgement remains unchanged.

Demonstration only. Not connected to a live ROC environment.

In the missed-deadline illustration: Approved assessment: Achieved. The last authorised judgement remains unchanged. Live assurance: Amber. A supporting requirement has been missed and needs attention. Evidence freshness: Current. A recent observation supports the finding.

Fresh evidence does not necessarily mean an effective control. An amber signal does not, by itself, establish a compromise or service outage. It shows why confidence in a supporting control needs review.

Any change to the formal assessment requires an authorised decision. Recovery is checked against the evidence needed to close the issue, not simply whether an action has been marked complete.

Outcomes that matter

Less evidence chasing. More focused action.

A stronger evidence trail

See which records support an assessment, when they were collected and where gaps remain. Bring relevant evidence into the review process instead of repeatedly rebuilding the same picture from disconnected reports.

Priorities grounded in business consequence

Understand which findings affect essential functions and critical services. Give action owners a clear reason to act, a defined next step and an evidence-based basis for closure.

Assurance you can explain

Show leadership what has changed, why it matters and how decisions were reached. Keep the approved assessment, current concerns and remediation progress visible without presenting them as interchangeable measures.

Deliberate control boundaries

Your environment. Your control boundary.

The ROC’s deployment model supports dedicated environments and locally hosted AI, with role-based access, scoped permissions and an audit history of evidence and decisions.

Evidence collection across IT and OT is read-only by default. Operational changes follow your approved safety and change-control processes. AI supports investigation and interpretation; authorised people retain control over formal assessment updates and consequential actions.

The Barrier approach

Expert-led assurance, built around your organisation.

Barrier starts with your business: the services you need to sustain, the risks you face and the obligations you need to address. We agree the assessment scope, understand the supporting environment and work with your team to validate findings.

Technical observations become contextualised recommendations, then prioritised initiatives that account for business impact, effort and cost. The ROC keeps that work connected to the evidence as your environment changes.

For organisations operating critical infrastructure, industrial systems and regulated services, that means a combination of specialist expertise, relevant technology and an actionable route from finding to improvement.
